Part 1/4 Organizing Personality
Everyone has an Organizing Personality, or lack there of. What is yours?
All your clutter is personal. Just how personal is it?
Your habits would likely be classified as Tidy, Social, Multitasking or Visual.
As Professionals, Oh To be Organized will visit your site, be it personal or business and assess the area(s) that need attention.
We pay as much attention to your personality and needs as we do to your piles of Tidy, Social, Multitasking &/or Visual items,
sometimes referred to as clutter. We are known as the Clutter Busters. :-) Clutter busting that works for your neighbor, may not
work for you. Each situation is unique and personal. In this case, one size does NOT fit all. You may fall into 2 or more of the
groups listed above. That is common. And you're not alone. Surely to goodness, there are probably many contributors to your
clutter zones. No one type is messier than the other type, they are just different. Today we will cover Tidy Clutter.
TIDY CLUTTER can be described as needing a place for everything. Sometimes these people are known to have Super Powers,
with the appearance of an immaculate home. (Don't open that drawer or look under that bed!!!) A Tidy Clutter-er could benefit by
listening to others ideas and drafting their own plan based on those ideas. Having a list that you can mark off is almost a MUST
HAVE.
Sometimes a TIDY CLUTTER-ER gets overwhelmed with perfection. Allow yourself some comfort and efficiency. Having a place
for everything and keeping it in its place is achievable, just allow for some dust build up.
Some Fast Firsts for a TIDY CLUTTER-ER would be Sort all pantry goods, dicarding out of date, alphabetize what you do have
and make a list of those spices that need to be replaced. Make sure you make room for those items that need to be replaced.
Another fast first for the TIDY CLUTTER-ER would be to sort through the paper. Is the desk top overflowing with things that need
to be shredded? Filed? Answered? Addressed? Mailed? Or just wadded up and thrown away? Make yourself sit down for 30
minutes and address each pile. Even if you just get the piles sorted, you are that much closer to a clean/organized/clutter free
desk top. Tomorrow you can finish the job. Another fast first to tackle is the closet. Rotate that wardrobe. Unless you live in Florida
and your wardrobe doesn’t fluctuate very much, as a Tidy Clutter-er, assess your clothing and other items. What items need to
be donated? Repaired? Replaced, Stored for next season, or taken to the consignment shop? You might want to store the
consigned items with the stored items. So they will be accepted at the proper season at the consignment shop. Great way to get a
little extra coin in your pocket. Not to mention, a great place to shop!!!
Write down specific goals. Those jobs that appear monumental, break them down into smaller chunks. Maybe do half the closet,
or just the shelves one day. Assign yourself To-Do by dates. Don’t be too hard on your self, but don’t be a slacker either, or they
won’t get done. A daily planner is a fabuolous tool for our Tide Clutter-er. You might consider a dry erase board in it’s stead.
Drawer and shelf dividers help make your job easier as well. These do not have to purchased from amazon or Target. I’m sure
there are many things at home you can make these out of. As a general rule, Tidy People can go overboard with purchasing ‘new
tools’ to help them organize. Just for fun, look around and see what you can re-use.
